Hemphill Family

First Recorded Generation

Ike Hemphill was born in 1807 and his brother Samuel Hemphill was born in 1810.  Both brothers were born in Georgia, but there are no records of their parent’s birth.   

 Ike Hemphill married Judy Hemphill and together they had seven children.  Samuel Hemphill married, but there are no records of his wife, but they did have five children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Jackson was born in 1828, Sanford was born in 1829, Nellie was born in 1830, Fruman was born in 1834 and Freeman was born in 1835.

Samuel Hemphill married Violet Hemphill who was 30 years younger and together they had three children in this order:  Lewis was born in 1862, Albert was born in 1870 and Samuel Jr. was born in 1874.  All of Samuel’s children were born and raised in Georgia.   

Second Recorded Generation

Freeman Hemphill – There are no records of his first marriage, however there was a daughter from this marriage and her name was Diana.   Diana was born in 1868.

Freeman Hemphill married his second wife Susan McCurry Hemphill in Carroll County, Mississippi on January 20, 1874.   Susan was the mother of a son named Nat McCurry who was born in 1873 when she and Freeman got married.   These are the names of their nine descendants:  Nellie was born in 1874, Georgia was born in 1877, Minnie was born in 1879, George was born in 1881, Richard was born in 1882, Samuel J or Sam was born in 1884, Mattie Bell was born in 1888, Lena was born in 1892 and A.D. was born in 1895.

Richard Hemphill married Etta Curry Hemphill in Carrollton, Mississippi in 1906.   Together they have eighteen children and these are the names of their descendants: Pennie Lorene Hemphill was born in 1908, but died as an infant.  Ruby Hemphill Harbin was born in 1909, Exell Hemphill was born in 1911 and died as a young child, Richard “Teddy”  was born in 1912, Willie Pauline Hemphill Hughes was born in 1913, Verna Lee Hemphill Walker was born in 1914, Johnnie Mae Hemphill Brown Childs was born in 1915, Edward E. “Hemp” was born in 1917, Homer Lee Hemphill Thompson was born in 1918, Curry Hemphill was born in 1919 and died as an infant, Theodore “Punch” was born in 1920, Godfrey Lee was born in 1924, Nellie V Hemphill Randall was born in 1925, William Edward “Silk” was born in 1927, Emma Hemphill Malone was born in 1929, Eugene Hemphill was a twin and born in 1930, Christine “Jack” was a twin and born in 1930 and Robert “Bob” was born in 1932.            

Fourth Recorded Generation

 Ruby Hemphill married Edgar Harbin and they had four children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Annie W. “Baby Ruth” Harbin was born in 1926, Edgar Jr. was born in 1928, Sarah Harbin Abdullah was born in 1930 and Fred C. was born in 1931.

Richard “Teddy” Hemphill married Henrietta Robinson and they had seven children.  These are the names of their descendants: Alma M. Hemphill White was born in 1933, Hattie R. Hemphill Smith Davis was born in 1936, Elmer was born in 1938, Clyde was born in 1942, Ernest was born in 1944, James was born in 1947 and Morris was born in 1956.

Willie P. Hemphill married Vassar Hughes and they had seven children.   These are the names of their descendants:  Etta M. Hughes Robinson was born in 1934, Lorraine Hughes Betts was born in 1935, Beatrice Hugh Hurd was born in 1939, Louise Hughes Williams was born in 1940, and Vassar Jr. was born in 1942, Christine Hughes Simpson was born in1948 and Robert was born in 1951.

Verna L. Hemphill married Tim Walker and they had four children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Aaron “Jabo”was born in 1934, Charles “Man” was born in 1936, Arnita “Sister’ was born in 1938 and Verna Walker Jr. Armstrong was born in 1940.

Johnnie M. Hemphill married Ben W. Brown and they had three children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Clint G. was born in 1932, Ben W. Jr. was in 1933 and Minnie M. Brown Brazell was born in 1934.

Edward E. “Hemp” Hemphill married Mary Louise Allen and they had five children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Howard Everett was born in 1939, Woody was born in 1941, and twins Luther and Leonard were born in 1943.  Shirley A. Hemphill Harper was born in 1946. 

Homer L. Hemphill Thompson married Tommie Thompson and they had one child.  This is the name of their descendant: Richard Hemphill II Thompson was born in 1942.

Theodore “Punch” Hemphill married Gladys Miller and he adopted Gladys’s two children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Edgar Miller Hemphill was born in 1938; Artie Miller Hemphill Dyer was born in 1941.

Nellie V. Hemphill married Lawrence Randall and they had two children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Lawrence Jr. was born in 1946 and Flora Jean Randall Anderson was born in 1947.

William E. “Silk” Hemphill married Dorothy Lumpkin and they had one child.  This is the name of their descendant:  Doris Marie Hemphill was born in 1956.  Silk later married Lillie Hill Hemphill and they had one child.   This is the name of their descendant:  Kim E. Hemphill was born in 1959.   

Emma Hemphill married Frank Malone and they had two children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Frank Bernard was born in 1953 and John was born in 1963.     

Christine Hemphill married Pete Moorer and they had one son.  Carthon “Scooter” was born in 1952.  Christine later had a daughter whose name was Shaun Renee Earnhart.   Shaun was born in 1961.  

Robert “Bob” Hemphill married Katie J. Graham and they had one son.  Robert Stacey was born in 1971.

Curry Family

First Recorded Generation

Backus Curry was born in Georgia in 1808 and married Peggy who was born in 1815.  The couple was sent to Talladega, Alabama to work and live on one of the Curry’s slave plantations.  There are known records of two of their descendants.  Pharis was born in 1833 and Cicero was born in 1835.                 

Pharis Curry married Melinda Curry who was born in 1832 and they had four children.  

Cicero Curry married Rena Curry who was born in 1835.   Cicero and Rena had six children who were all born in Talladega, Alabama.   These are the names of their descendants:  Sept was born in 1860, Price was born in 1862, Maria was born in 1864, Magnolia was born in 1866, Mollie was born in 1868 and Nathaniel was born 1870.   

Second Recorded Generation

Price Curry married Pennie Liddell who was born in 1869 and was living in Carrollton, Mississippi.   These are the names of their twelve descendants: Etta Curry Hemphill was born in 1886, Phea Arthur was born in 1887, Price was born in 1889, Anansis was born in 1891, Booker was born in 1892, Dewitt was born in 1893, Sandy was born in 1895, Annie Curry Lott was born in 1896, Rena was born in 1897, Dock “Doc” was born in 1898, Buford was born in 1899 and Robert was born in 1900.    All of the Curry children were born and lived in Carrollton, Mississippi until after World War II when they begin to move north.

Phea Arthur Curry married Aileen Curry and they had six children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Phea Arthur Jr. was born in 1908, Mary Sue Curry Payne was born in 1909, Rose Bud Curry Henderson was born in 1915, Woodrow was born in 1918, Willie Pearl Curry was born in 1920 and Charlie was born in 1922.

Price Curry married Florence Martin Curry and they had five children.   These are the names of their descendants:  Ward ‘Squeaky” was born in 1916, Percy was   born in 1918, Beulah Curry Anderson was born in 1921, Wendell was born in 1922 and James “Booker T” was born in 1927.

Anansis Curry married Minnie Dillard Curry and they had two children.  These are the names of their descendants: Hayes was born in 1922 and Nizer was born in 1922.

Booker Curry married Lucille Lott Curry and they had three children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Booker T. BT Jr. was born in 1927, Mae Laura Curry Swims was born in 1929 and Alphonzo was born in 1934.

Dewitt Curry married Mary Reddit Curry and they had eight children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Myrtle Curry Grant was born in 1917, Fannie Curry Goss was born in 1919, Bennie Curry Boyd was born in 1921, James was born in 1923, Vernora Curry was born in 1925, Lloyd was born in 1927, Jessie was born in 1930 and Dorothy Curry Woolfork was born in 1932.

Sandy Curry married Anna Bennet Curry and they had only one child.   Homer was born in 1922.

Annie Curry Lott married Jim Lott and they did not have any children.

Rena Curry died as an infant.

Dock “Doc” Curry married Willie Mae Ball Curry and they had twelve children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Roy was born in 1921, Willie was born in 1923, Clarence was born in 1925, Frank was born in 1927, James “Mac” was born in 1929, Doc “Whitney” Jr. was born in 1932, Robert Lee was born in 1935, Charlie “Sonny” was born in 1934, Jimmy was born in 1938, Mary Curry Griffin was born in 1943 and Lillie Ruth Curry was born in 1944.

Buford Curry married Rebecca Curry and they had nine children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Harvester was born in 1926, Calvin was born in 1928, Frank was born in 1929, Beulah Curry Ford was born in 1930, Dewitt was born in 1932, Catherine Curry Flemming was born in 1934, Wendell was born in 1936, Thelma Curry Peoples was born in 1938 and Buford Jr. was born in 1940.

Robert Curry married Virginia “Tugger” Campbell Curry and they had two children.  These are the names of their descendants:  Sid Campbell was born in 1932 and Robert Lee was born in 1934.

Liddell Family

First Recorded Generation

William Liddell was born in Tennessee in 1819 and married Pennie Liddell who was born in Georgia in 1820.   Both Pennie and William were born into slavery as well as all of their children.   These are the names of their three descendants in order of birth: Captain “Cap’ was born in 1842, Ben was born in 1847 and Anderson was born 1856.   All of the children were born in Carrollton, Mississippi.         

Cap Liddell married Lorether who was born in 1843 and they had nine children.   These are the names of their descendants:  Rachel was born in 1860, Beaugard was born in 1863, Julia was born in 1864, Rance was born in 1867, the twins: (Pennie and Bennie) was born in 1869, Anderson was born in 1871, Fannie was born in 1873 and Cap Jr. was born in 1876.                                                                                    

Second Recorded Generation

Rance Liddell married Barbara White who was born 1866 and they also had nine children.   These are the names of their descendants:  Mary was born in 1888, Willie was born in 1890, L.C. was born in 1893, Leona was born in 1895, Letroy was born in 1898, Agusta (Gus) was born 1900, Sam was born in 1905, Pauline was born in 1913 and Francis was born in 1915.

Third Recorded Generation

Mary Liddell married Flanders Gary Jr. who was born in 1888.   Mary and Flanders had seven children and these are the names of their descendants:  Sallie was born in 1906, Baby Gary was born 1907, Corean was born in 1908, George (Big Boy) was born in 1912, Mary Lou was born in 1915, Vervle Lee was born in 1922 and Kaiser was born in 1925.  The entire Rance lineage had settled in Desoto County, Mississippi.

Vervle Lee married Frank (Diddy) Guy who was born in 1922.   Vervle Lee and Frank had one child whose name is Frankie Lee Guy who was born in 1942.         

Fifth Recorded Generation

Frankie Lee Guy married Hayward (June) Leake Jr. and he was born in 1938.   Frankie Lee and Hayward had three children and these are the names of their descendants:  Darin Key (Pookie) was born in 1961, Alecia Fay was born in 1962 and Angela Kay was born in 1965.
